How to make the news come to you (Video)
With the way the digital world continues to expand, news increasingly goes to find an audience, rather than the other way around.
Young professional people especially want the news to come to them. Time-starved, with too many demands on their attention, working professional people are turning to news-delivery devices such as Google Alerts, Twitter and Facebook with greater frequency.
Watch this quick video from The Civic Report editor Tim Taliaferro offering some easy strategies for letting others do the heavy news lifting, bringing you the news you want, and saving you time — and sanity.
What’s a good way beyond google alerts to customize topics? The problem with GAs is you get too much chaff. If I type in “Sudan” I get everything from blog posts to Sudanese food recipes.

I’d say try adjusting your alerts to be more specific. If you’re looking for blog posts from Sudan, restrict your alerts to Blogs. If you want Sudanese food recipes, say so in the alert settings.
Twitter, too, is getting increasingly sophisticated with its search capabilities. Worth checking out, as well.
Then I’d say just be mindful of which blogs and which Web sites consistently give you the content you’re looking for and either subscribe to an RSS feed from those sites or get on their e-mail lists.
